Fibber McGee's

Our offices are in Leederville, and we walk past Fibber McGee's Irish Pub & Steakhouse to get from the train station to our place of work. I'd always considered Fibber's to be primarily an Irish Pub, but my curiosity was piqued by the chalkboard outside declaring that they served dry-aged steak. So we decided to go there for lunch one day.

At lunch, we were amazed to find out that Fibber's own and operate an organic farm that exclusively supplies their restaurant with organic vegetables, free-range eggs and lamb, pork, chicken and beef. On top of which they make their own Irish soda bread, cure their own bacon, dry-age their own beef in a specially-designed coolroom and make all sauces that they use by hand, from scratch.

Unsurprisingly, the food was really, really good.

Upon returning to the office I emailed the owner, John Little, to let him know how much I loved the food, and to suggest that we build their website for them (their current website was a "coming soon" placeholder page that announced their site would be launching in "2008"). John and I met that week, and quickly decided to work together. I was impressed by his passion for quality produce and good food, and by his bold claim that the serve the best steak in Australia.

I've eaten great steak at lots of places, from Victoria Station at Burswood to the massive Wagyu Tomahawk at The Old Swan Brewery to Neil Perry's Rockpool Bar & Grill in Sydney, and, I must say, I think John might be on to something!

Matthew and I quickly arranged professional photography of the venue, food and the farm (which was lots of fun to visit), and we had the website for Fibber McGee's professionally designed to John's specifications. Once the photographs were available and the design was complete, we set about implementing the site. This took a bit longer than expected; getting the animating carousel on the home page to work well across all browsers, from IE7 to Opera, took a bit longer than it should have, but we'll take that as a lesson learned.

You can visit the finished site at www.fibbermcgees.com.au, and, if you own a restaurant yourself, consider contacting GeekSalt for a great website today!
